Cellular Stores: An Open House Celebrating a Four-Month Creative Journey

February 13, 2017 Barb Skoog

I know...I was quiet here on the blog* the second half of 2016. Very quiet. But I have a very good reason.

In late August 2016, I began a mentorship program with artist David Limrite called ELEVATE. Together with five other artists, we dove deep into shaping and creating a body of work, pushing ourselves technically, and digging deep spiritually to nurture and develop our personal voice and intention.

Four months later, I stood in my studio amazed at what had emerged from me. As purposeful as I had been in execution, I was blown away by my emotional response when I stepped back and observed the collective work.

Oh my. What just happened?

A stylistic departure from my past creative work, I ventured into the abstract and contemporary yet still remained grounded in traditional:

~ spray paint meets charcoal ~

~ graffiti meets marbling ~

~ hash marks meet paint slides ~

~ Joshua trees meet concrete cinder blocks ~

I would be honored to have you join me my studio to witness this new body of work and share in the experience of creating and receiving. You will see finished and unfinished work. Successes and failures. New directions and hints of possibilities.

Oh, and there will be wine and delicious food too!

Saturday, March 4
Open House: 1 p.m. – 5 p.m.
Artist Talk: 3 p.m.
Location: my South Pasadena home studio
(email me for address)

~ This show is dedicated to my mom, my loudest cheerleader, who passed away last month. ~

Hope to see you there!

* I was quiet on my blog but I posted several WIP pics on my Instagram account. Head on over there if you want a peek into some of the things you'll see at the Open House.
